Gambling is hard. Hell, life is hard. But we go on with both because they’re good for the soul and if you do well, you’re almost certainly assured of getting into heaven. Speaking of heaven, my horribly dumb way of betting moneyline parlays with just the favorites has done surprisingly well over the past few weeks. I’m sure that streak will come to an end now that I’m saying it out loud.
Telling others about your bets is certainly not the way Billy Walters would do it. I picked up a copy of “Secrets Form A Life at Risk” and one of the key takeaways, other than Phil Mickelson is a real jerk, is that one should never bet moneyline parlays as a serious strategy. I can confirm this to be true based on years of losing. But what is one to do if one doesn’t have a network of gambling experts and a proprietary algorithm to use for placing bets? That’s how Walters made millions and beat the books but it’s not something the rest of us can pull off if we’re just doing it for fun.
Look, I’ve always known that my ability to pick a game based on the point spread is at best a 50/50 proposition and that’s not good enough to be profitable. So I play the moneyline parlays with heavy favorites for college football and basketball and place big bets on futures and season win totals. With that system, I’ve been able to keep my winning at slightly over 54% which isn’t something to brag about but is much better than losing my ass, which is what I did in my 20’s and 30’s. With that said, here are this week’s picks:
9 TEAM MP: Toledo, Ohio St., FLorida St., Georgia, Michigan, USC, Clemson, Ohio, Miami (-118)
5 TEAM MP: UNC, Florida, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Oregon State (+216)
PTS and Moneyline Parlay: Maryland +21.5 and Iowa Moneyline (+200)
Missouri +7
Washington State +3.5
Wyoming +7
Arizona +21.5
Kentucky +14.5
